二十一度母，是观音菩萨大悲心的化现，象征慈悲遍在、救度无偏、功德圆满。其总义在于救度苦难、满愿增福、速得成就，为藏传佛教中最为圆融而周遍的救度体系之一。
“度母”之名，意为度脱。二十一度母同体显现，代表观音悲心对一切境界、因缘与众生苦难的全面回应。无论身处恐惧、病苦、障碍、灾厄，或内心烦恼与修行滞碍之中，皆可得其护佑与引导。
在功德义理上，二十一度母具足速疾救护之力，能应机化解八难与诸多灾厄，息除恐惧，安抚心识，使身心回归清明与安稳。其救度并非权宜之应，而源自觉悟之心，恒常而不退转。
“二十一度”之数，象征救度的周遍与圆满，对应众生不同愿求与因缘，总摄息灾、增益、怀柔、诛障四种佛教事业。

二十一度母は、観音菩薩の大悲心の化現であり、慈悲の遍在、偏りなき救済、功徳の円満を象徴する尊格である。 その根本義は、苦難を救い、願いを満たし、速やかな成就へと導くことにあり、チベット仏教において 最も円融かつ包括的な救済体系の一つとされる。
「度母」とは「度脱」を意味し、二十一尊が同体として顕現することは、観音の悲心が あらゆる境遇・因縁・衆生の苦しみに対して遍く応じることを示している。
二十一度母は、息災・増益・懐柔・調伏という四種の仏教事業を総摂し、 現世安穏から修行成就に至るまで、衆生の多様な願いを包み込む存在として信仰されてきた。
The Twenty-One Taras · (English)
The Twenty-One Taras are manifestations of the Great Compassion of Avalokiteśvara, symbolizing all-pervading compassion, impartial salvation, and the fulfillment of merit. They represent one of the most comprehensive systems of spiritual protection and liberation within Tibetan Buddhism.
The name “Tārā” signifies liberation. The collective manifestation of the Twenty-One Taras expresses Avalokiteśvara’s compassionate response to all conditions, sufferings, and aspirations of sentient beings.
Encompassing the four enlightened activities—pacifying, increasing, magnetizing, and subjugating— the Twenty-One Taras are revered as embodiments of awakened compassion guiding beings toward both worldly stability and ultimate liberation.
