This Yuan-dynasty blue-and-white meiping (plum vase) depicts the celebrated episode “Xiao He Chasing Han Xin by Moonlight.” The refined, upright profile of the meiping serves as an ideal carrier for historical narrative. The luminous white glaze evokes moonlight, while the nuanced tonal range of cobalt suggests the depth of night. Figures, rocks, bamboo, plantain leaves, shoreline, and a boat are orchestrated into a coherent pictorial world, crystallizing the theme of “seeking and recognizing talent” on porcelain.
